On The Reg Team is a training company dedicated to helping researchers be efficient and happy at work. In these trying times, this goal is harder than you would think! Our workshops provide fun, safe spaces for people to explore their work habits and develop new ones. We work with researchers inside and outside the academy to improve work practice and reduce stress. All our workshops feature AI tips and tricks as well as tried and true methods to improve writing and teaching practices as well as enable high quality research.

The On The Reg Team bring a combined 40+ years of experience to working with people inside and outside the classroom.

Professor Inger Mewburn is a leading expert in research education and early career researcher development and best known as ‘The Thesis Whisperer‘, authoring a globally renowned blog with over 100,000 followers. Her scholarly work focuses on higher education policy and practice, with special interests in employability and neurodivergence in research study. She has published extensively, including books on academic writing and communications.

Inger has developed innovative programs like Thesis Boot Camp and led the creation of PostAc, a machine learning-powered platform connecting PhD graduates with industry jobs. Her work has been recognised with awards for excellence in graduate research leadership and service innovation. Inger is passionate about bridging disciplines and has recently expanded her teaching into machine learning and AI. As an influential voice in higher education, she frequently provides expert commentary in the media and delivers keynotes internationally.

She holds a position as Director of Researcher Development at The Australian National University. Aside from running workshops for ANU researchers, she creates new posts on the Thesis Whisperer blog, writes scholarly papers and authors books about research education. She has special interests in post PhD employability, research communications and neurodivergence.

Dr. Jason Downs is a dedicated educational leader with over 20 years of experience translating research into practical innovation. His PhD in Management and diverse international background have shaped his unique approach to higher education. Jason has led courses across Asia-Pacific, including Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Jakarta, and Australia. He has experience teaching large undergraduate courses and courses at the postgraduate level. This global perspective informs his work in educational policy, program design, and stakeholder engagement. Jason has led teams responsible for Academic Integrity, Quality and Standards, and program design. He is committed to excellence in education and is particularly interested in AI’s transformative potential in learning.  

Together, Jason and Inger co-host the successful podcast On The Reg, which has garnered over 100,000 downloads. This platform allows them to share insights and engage with a broader audience on topics related to higher education and beyond. In 2024 Inger and Jason launched On The Reg Team, a training company dedicated to helping researchers and knowledge workers be their best self at work.
